Speaker Asks Panel to Draft New Relief Measure

She hopes to be back at the negotiating table soon.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi hinted Thursday that bipartisan talks with the White House could resume soon.

She has asked her committee heads to draft a package of emergency coronavirus relief, which, if no deal Is reached with the White House soon, she would potentially bring to the floor next week.

The chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Richard Neal of Massachusetts, is leading the panel. He said the package is in the range of $2.2 trillion, representing the last figure the Speaker had offered, and that it could receive a vote by October 2, just before the House is scheduled to recess for the elections.

Speaker Pelosi said she spoke with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, but no formal date has been set for renewing in-person negotiations.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For a return to the negotiating table to develop another coronavirus relief package.
  • For those who were laid off during the lockdowns who still remain unemployed.
